不知你從多遠的高空而來，
是乘坐哪朵雲？
同來的是否有碧霄的詩情，
是否有故鄉的信鴿，
是否給少年捎來
熏香的手帕？
緊密擁抱著的顆顆雨珠，
同時相約啓程，
又同時落在我的帳篷上，
像細細的針。
一切看似偶然，
但為什麼只有你這一滴，
穿透了我的帳，
落入我的頸項，
在我下筆的這一刻？
來到我心的，
就住在我這裡。
送別那位
剛剛離去的思想者——
他不曾把誰
寫成敵人，
卻曾深深剖析
自己的靈魂。
這雨滴是億萬個淚珠，
是傷心的，
同時是歡喜的。
你的靈魂，
從來都是自由的；
你的軀殼，
如今也不再受禁錮。
它將化作塵土，
來年必會長出
美麗潔白的茉莉花。
雖然不知你將何處安眠，
但這雨滴一定會找到你。
讓它輕敲你的墓門，
帶去千萬人的問候。
遠方，
那把為你空著的椅子，
還在靜靜等候。

I wonder how far you have come
from the heights of the sky,
which cloud carried you here,
whether you brought with you
the poetry of the blue heavens,
a homing pigeon from afar,
or a scented handkerchief
sent to a young man.
Raindrops, holding one another close,
set out together,
and together fell upon my tent,
like slender needles.
Everything seems accidental.
But why was it only you,
this single drop,
that slipped through my tent
and fell upon my neck
at the very moment I began to write?
What comes into my heart
will remain here.
I bid farewell
to the thinker who has just departed—
he never wrote anyone
into an enemy,
yet searched deeply
into his own soul.
This raindrop holds
a hundred million tears—
filled with sorrow,
and at the same time, with joy.
Your spirit
has always been free;
and now your body, too,
is no longer confined.
It will return to the earth,
and next year
beautiful white jasmine
will surely bloom.
Though I do not know
where you will come to rest,
this raindrop will surely find you.
Let it gently knock
upon the door of your grave,
carrying the greetings
of millions.
Far away,
the chair left empty for you
is still quietly waiting.
