(Empty Church)

Lyrics(English)

The pointed church stands in the wind, Does God truly dwell within? The domed church rests in the light, Is this His genuine home, wherein?

O Jesus upon the wooden cross, Why do You remain there still? Is it that faith in us is lost, Leaving You hanging by human will?

You are not found in high-walled stone, Nor in halls of golden gleam; You live in hearts that make You known, Wherever calls arise and stream.

When Jesus came to earth below, Descending from glory, divine and vast; Only a manger welcomed Him so, And a cross saw Him depart at last.

Those years of walking, preaching the way, In caves and humble homes He stayed; Sometimes with no pillow where He lay, With no secure home for the part He played.

You are not found in high-walled stone, Nor in halls of golden gleam; You live in hearts that make You known, Wherever calls arise and stream.

So many cathedrals, grand and tall, So many chapels, modest and small; Built for Jesus, one and all, Hoping for heaven, answering the call.

Yet how many churches today remain, Where worshippers now are few and rare? Turned into tourist spots of mundane, And songs of praise no longer fill the air.

Yet He waits there, watching the door, Waiting for hymns of praise to rise; Waiting for seekers to turn once more, Till praise fills empty halls beneath the skies.

Author’s Note(English)

Afterword: A Quiet Vigil

Roaming through Europe a decade ago, the towering spires and weathered domes remain etched in my dreams. They once stood as sanctuaries built into the wind, whispering humanity’s longing for the eternal. Yet, amidst those journeys, this gaze inevitably caught the touch of time—many sacred halls have lost their former resonance, becoming mere passing stops for travelers or silently crumbling into dust as the years peeled away.

Standing in the center of an empty church, the loneliness of an abandoned space, coupled with the decay of the architecture, sent ripples through my heart. I could not help but wonder: if even golden halls must eventually age with time, where then have the devotion and love once entrusted to them scattered?

This poem, Empty Church, is not a lament for buildings, but a search for the resting place of the soul. I know deeply that true faith is never confined to cold stone walls. In every broken life, in every helpless whisper, and in the depths forgotten by the world, God remains.

Words have their limits, but the mission of life is a long, arduous trek. I offer this as a remembrance, praying that the wind of revival may once again blow across these desolate lands, causing the dried-up springs to flow with nectar once more. May we carry this love back into the human world in every ordinary moment, fulfilling that profound commission in the smallest of deeds.

May the songs that were once forsaken eventually echo again within every broken temple.
