這首歌寫於從台北飛往深圳的途中。
飛機越過海峽，不過片刻。望著舷窗下的深藍，我卻忽然覺得，有些距離可以很快跨越，有些距離卻走了很多年。
海峽兩邊，有離開時說過「還會回來」的人，有多年以後依然記得的鄉音，也有一些說不清的牽掛。靠近一點，又遠一點——有時是地理的距離，有時更是人心的距離。
寫著寫著，我發現自己並沒有始終站在海的一邊。有時從這邊望向那邊，有時又仿佛站到了另一邊。也許因為身在海外多年，更容易感受到：隔著一片海，人們可以有不同的記憶和心情，卻也可能分享著某些相似的眷戀。
於是有了《海峽的雲》。
岸有兩邊，雲沒有。
願有一天，海峽上的雲依然自由來去，而彼此的鄉音，也能在同一場黃昏裡輕輕回響。
Author’s Note(English)
This song was written on a flight from Taipei to Shenzhen.
It takes only a short while to cross the strait by air. Yet as I looked down at the deep blue water beneath the clouds, I found myself thinking: some distances can be crossed in moments, while others may take a lifetime.
On both sides of the strait are people who once left with the promise, “I’ll come back.” There are familiar voices and accents remembered after many years, and ties of the heart that are difficult to put into words. A little closer, then a little farther away—sometimes the distance is geographical; sometimes it lies within the heart.
As I wrote, I realized that I was not always looking from the same shore. At times I seemed to be gazing from one side, and then, almost without noticing, from the other. Perhaps years of living overseas have made it easier for me to understand that people separated by a stretch of sea may carry different memories and feelings, yet still share some of the same longing.
And so Clouds Over the Strait came into being.
The shores are divided; the clouds are not.
May the clouds above the strait always drift freely from shore to shore, and may familiar voices one day echo gently beneath the same evening sky.
